Technology is changing at a rapid speed. In our daily lives, we use technology almost nonstop. From the moment we open our eyes until we go back to bed, we get in touch with all things tech. But how will schools adapt to tech? If we want the best technology in our homes and cars, should we not have the best technology for our kids in schools? Some technology, such as cloud computing and 3D printing, is already making a difference in education. Some tech that will pave the way for schooling in the future is worthwhile considering.

Augmented Reality (AR)

This tech is still new, and we are still waiting on AR to surprise us, but one thing it is doing right is to amaze us with the possibilities. It will allow kids to go on virtual field trips and journeys from the comfort and safety of the classroom. It enables people to see additional information layered over what can be seen through a lens or on a screen. The downside is that AR technology is minimal, and currently, you can only make use of it on your cell phone.

Flexible Displays

When making notes, we still use the old memo pad during any lecture. Even though it’s not paper anymore, we still do notes on our laptops and tablets. What if this can change into a flexible OLED-based display? It looks like regular paper, is lightweight, flexible and extremely thin.

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” “The power of education extends beyond the development of skills we need for economic success. It can contribute to nation-building and reconciliation.

3D Printing

3D printing opens up endless possibilities in the classroom. The kids can print whatever they like, and as they do so, they can touch and see it. Engineering students are already making use of this technology by perfecting their designs before printing.

Multi-Touch LCD Screens

Even though this technology is not new, it might be new to the classroom. Over the last few years, we have seen the demise of the old blackboards, being replaced with overhead projectors and video projectors. The future ‘blackboard’ will most likely be a giant touchscreen.

Cloud Computing

This technology is already making a positive wave in our society and education. China is a perfect example where this technology is making a difference. They have installed 6 000 cloud computing devices in 118 schools. The technology is more accessible and acceptable because students don’t have to buy and carry heavy textbooks. Students have constant access to an abundance of reading material. This will ultimately virtualize a classroom. Teaching will be much easier and students will be able to log in and attend classes remotely.

These are only a couple of innovations we can expect to change the lives of kids and teachers in the future education sector. Technology should make schooling more accessible and safe. Will it make it more enjoyable? Hopefully.
