It’s been a very difficult year, as we can all attest, and it’s going to take some fortitude to claw our way back to where we were before this global pandemic. If you’re interested in possibly changing jobs, or even careers, here are the top 5 jobs in the technology sector that SA companies are looking for.

Top five positions in demand:

  1. Cybersecurity
  2. Cloud computing
  3. Artificial Intelligence and machine learning
  4. Data scientist
  5. Robotics and process automation

The biggest challenge facing the technology sector in SA is a lack of supply in talent with STEM (science, technology, engineering & maths) skills. Therefore it’s incredibly important to nurture any budding “techies” from a young age. From starting with brain training exercises as children, and even toddlers, to cultivating a more conducive environment for these subjects in schools.

Brain training apps with the likes of Elevate, Peak and Brainwell could go a long way to teaching both children and adults an affinity for numbers and logical thinking.

Gone are the days when tech-focused jobs were only for “Revenge of the Nerds”. In these challenging times our future generations need to recognise that that’s where the money is as life as we know it is all moving into the digital realm.
